So I’ve finally succumbed to the power of Instagram and to date, I have four photos on there. Woot woot! I’m going to be using it not only to showcase photos but also illustrations and graphic design stuff. It takes a bit of getting used to though and I’ve resisted joining for so long for a number of reasons:
1. I feel that a lot of the photos that we’re seeing nowadays look the same or similar or samey. Instagram have preset photo actions – Lark/Reyes/Juno/Slumber ….and the list goes on. It makes mediocre photos look good. And makes good photos look…well…maybe better. I’m reserving additional judgement until I’ve used it more.
2. My time is consumed with family life and working. Where on earth am I going to find the time to add another social media platform under my belt?
3. My old mobile was an iphone 4 which took absolutely awful photos. Honestly, even Instagram couldn’t rescue them! New phone is SO much better and I’m looking forward to snapping away when something catches my photographer’s eye.
So let’s see how it goes. It’s early days and I’ve only got 39 followers. This is bound to change and as a creative graphic designer, illustrator and photographer, it makes good business sense to use it.
Ready, steady, Instagram.
